I always underestimated JavaScript. I know it has been a problem for me, because I've really missed lots of interesting things until I decided to explore the programming language.
In the following article I will show one of the useful things we can do with JavaScript: discover the charset and mime type of a web page.
You might wonder what's the use of it. Well... as usual try to broaden your view and consider the fact that every visitor is visiting your beloved web site from somewhere in the wide world, sitting on a different kind of chair (if not standing or lying), with a different piece of technology or device, and finally (but I could go on forever) with a specific browser ... ... type and version (the mixture of the two is a deadly issue for any web developer).
Ok, said that, don't you think that knowing the mime type and charset of a page might be useful?

ASP: some simple advices to obtain well organized pages

When coding a new ASP page, there are some simple things to keep in mind. While our creativity shouldn't be blocked, there are some rules that - if followed - might increase the performance of our newly created page. Some of these ideas are just general advices that can be useful. Others are more imperative, and should be carefully considered almost as laws.
Anyway, let's see them one by one and then you can comment, say what you think and maybe add some other ideas that I might have forgotten.

ASP: Multilingual web sites (AddHeader, CodePage and CharSet)

I've been working with multilingual web sites for a long time and - believe me - they sometimes are not so easy to manage. At the moment, one of the sites I manage, lets the user choose between 8 languages (including Cyrillic).
One of the issues you might have to face when dealing with languages, is how to manage charsets. I know there's a lot of talking about it, especially in relation to specific browsers and characters rendering. The only thing I remember is that it was a real pain! Being completely sure on how the web page was rendered seemed to be almost impossible.
