jQuery: embedding videos

Ever wanted to embed a video in your blog or web site? I must admit I don't really like videos on web sites, however I understand that some sites heavily rely on videos. Usually when I open a home page, the presence of multiple videos - starting automatically - makes me go away. But, I do appreciate if an internal page offers the possibility of viewing a short video or animation... on demand.

Anyway, if you need to embed videos in your pages, here is a list of jQuery plugins that might be of some help.

Embed QuickTime
"Embed QuickTime is a jQuery plugin that helps you embed QuickTime movies to play directly on your webpage, instead of redirecting your video to a separate page or forcing you to embed a video using Flash. It changes regular image links to the embedded QuickTime video when they are clicked."

jQuery Media Plugin
"The jQuery Media Plugin supports unobtrusive conversion of standard markup into rich media content. It can be used to embed virtually any media type, including Flash, Quicktime, Windows Media Player, Real Player, MP3, Silverlight, PDF and more, into a web page. The plugin converts an element (usually an <a>) into a <div> which holds the object, embed or iframe tags neccessary to render the media content."

HTML5 Video Player
"This is a pretty awesome jQuery video player. It has playlist functionality and lots of callbacks/options for customization."

jlEmbed for jQuery
"jlEmbed is a plugin for jQuery, which makes it easier to add embedded media players to your webpage. With support for Adobe Flash, Quicktime, Real Player, Silverlight, Windows Media Player, and YouTube, you will no longer need to hard-code lengthy, cumbersome, and invalid HTML for your music or videos. jlEmbed also has built-in music playlist support, a customizable MP3, SWF, FLV, YouTube audio player, support for swfobject, YouTube videos, and custom YouTube video playlists."

jQuery youtube playlist plugin
"For a recent client project, we wanted to be able to turn a list of YouTube links into a playlist.  This would allow the client to manage their videos on YouTube and simply insert links to the videos on their site.  With javascript enabled a nice playlist is created, whilst without javasript the user gets a regular list of links to youtube pages."

Mallery
"Mallery is a multifunctional javascript media gallery using jQuery that can handle all kind of data types you can imagine, including not just pictures, but flash videos as well. You can configure the mallery data types handling via xml-file."

jqVideoBox
"jqVideoBox is jquery port of  Videobox (mootools) lightbox for videos jqVideoBox is jquery lightbox for videos from Youtube, Metacafe, Google Video, Dailymotion, Revver, Veoh, Vimeo, Smotri, Vkontakte, Rutube, Mail.ru, Qip.ru and custom flash."

oEMBEDit
"oEMBEDit is a plugin for jQuery that allows developers an easy way to mimic Facebook's style of embedding videos. An image is displayed first and when clicked on, embeds a defined video."
